e-com Final Project Q4
Project
For our fourth quarter project we had to create a fake product. We were put in groups of 4 based on our personality types. The groups created commercials, animations, and designs for the companies and logos. We also had to design a website including everything previously said. Our company is Safe House Industries, and our product is a device called the Treasure Tracker. In summary it locates anything you may have lost.
The project took about 9 weeks, which we spend in different classes with different teachers depending on what we were designing that week.
The biggest challenge was figuring out what we were going to do for our product. We spend many hours deciding what our product and company would be and what certain things would do or look like.
Along the way I learned a lot about website design. In our group I was assigned to work on the website, which required a lot of effort. However, I also learned about teamwork. I worked with people I had never met before and came to know them, I would help them with their part and they would help me with mine when needed.
After The final Product was completed and shown to our peers and teachers, we were told that we could fix a few things on the website and our speech. So after the positive feedback I went and fixed everything I possibly could. Most of which was pictures in incorrect positions or text in the wrong places. I thought It turned out well in the final presentations.
I thought my group worked well in quarter 4. It was a great way to end the school year. I think everyone in my group did the work they needed to do and we worked well together. If we needed to work on something before or after school, everyone made sure to do what was needed. Some people, I personally feel I gave myself too much work to do, but I made sure I got it done and didn't disappoint my group.
Time In Class
During class time, we completed much of our product, such as the logo, the product and company name, the commercial, and advertisements. Once everything I needed to do was completed I resumed working on the website, and putting the thing we just created into the website.
If i was done with that days requirements, I either worked on something else for another group member, or as I said, worked on the website. I also looked over my teammates' work and they looked over mine to make sure nothing needed fixing. They would often find things for me to improve, but would never be harsh about it.
Outside of class, I worked on the website. It required a lot of work, and I could not get it and other projects don't in school, so I came in early before school and worked on it. I also worked on it at home when it was needed. I spent quite a few hours of my own time working on the website to make it as good as possible.
Strengths
After one year of e-com, I have majorly improved in everything I studied. I gained a lot of skill in video editing and production. I maximized this strength by practicing editing videos at home. I create personal YouTube videos not for school and edit random videos for friends and family. I tested out many different things, and learned how to do a lot with different video editors.
Areas of Improvement
I struggled with animation. I had some issues creating what I had in my head, and required a lot of help from my team. I will improve this next year by doing a lot more animation. I can also practice my animation skills at home over the summer.
Summary
Throughout the quarter, I came to love working with my group. I figured out I was working with very exciting people who were fun to talk to. I also loved working on the website. It gave me something to do that I enjoyed doing. It wasn't too stressful, and fun to design.
If I ever were to do this project again, I would like to make the website look even more professional. At the time I started designing the website, I was still a novice website creator. I would like to get a lot better at designing websites, and videos and animations as well.
This quarter taught me to work with people I did not know. I was skeptical about the idea of working with people I did't know for a while quarter, but now that the quarter is almost over, i'm glad that we did the project. If I was asked to do a project like this again, I wouldn't think twice about it.
Next year I would like to become better at editing videos. While I learn a lot about video editing myself, theres still a lot I would like to know. I can definitely improve in not just video editing but animation, web design, and graphic design as well.
I am glad I got to meet and work with the people in my group for this project. It helped me become less of an introvert and talk to other people.
